We are literally a day before 2016 so I thought I would write a reflective post to share my experiences of the year we are leaving! When I started to think back about what I had actually done this year I worried that I hadn't done enough, but searching through my phone back ups, looking at photographs and videos, I remembered I had actually done so much and alot were huge changes. It made me incredibly happy to be a blogger, to be a person who documents everything via photograph and video to see all the good times I have had in 2015. It's going to sound a little corny but I feel like I really have come into my own this year, finding an answer to the question in life 'what do I want to do for the rest of my life'. That could be naive at only 21, but for now it's a goal that I want to work and work towards to achieve.

This year I did something I had always wanted to do and went on an adventure, my first holiday abroad as an adult over the age of 18. A little late yes, but it was perfect. With a bunch of humans I call my best friends, I had the absolute time of my life and never  felt so free to see another side of the world that is far from the culture in Britain. What makes me happy is we did it all ourselves, the arranging, planning, I saved so much money working my ass off and sat on that plane I had the realization of 'omg we're actually doing it we're getting away'. I've never had much money for myself so I was so proud to of saved so much to be following out a dream. This holiday made my wanderlust explode, I want to travel and have adventures until I'm too old to stand.
Another large step for me was the amazing food I tried whilst in Greece, which is a big thing considering I am the fussiest eater. I have a limited set of food that I eat, but after this holiday I will try anything that is outside of my food comfort zone. We even climbed up a mountain to a temple, it was so peaceful but adventurous to be out in the world exploring history.
At the beginning of the year I thought I was happy, but slowly over the months my happiness started to disappear as I found myself being let down time and time again.

30 Dec 2015

At the beginning of January I decided to create this blog, heartshapedbones being my platform to share my style of fashion, my artwork and some of my lifestyle stories. It became less about my artwork which is what I aim to change in the new year, but it flourished for my outfit posts. I was given amazing opportunities to work with brands and be sent products to review or dress, my content showing how I could dress new items with my own wardrobe to incorporate into my lifestyle. Now that were at the end of the year I started to think back to all the awesome shoots I did, all the blood sweat and tears that went into editing when I should of been doing university work. It's been a mad juggle but I love it, I love the whole blogging life and I can't wait to make more content in 2016.

I decided to round up some of my highlighted outfit posts, celebrating heartshapedbones first year existing on the internet but also a little throw back to see myself with pink hair and how my style has grown.

The first photograph up above is my very first fashion post, showing a beautiful two piece I ordered from Misguided in the January sales. I had just dyed my hair pink and with that little outburst of a new me, I decided to create heartshapedbones to showcase my style blooming.

I decided to do something brave and a little crazy which was printing my own illustrations onto tshirts! I sold out in pretty much four hours which was beyond what I ever imagined! That plunge really paid off and made me realise it is what I want to do in life. I want my own business, I want to work from home selling art prints, tote bags, t-shirts and make many more film culture inspired designs alot with custom dotwork pieces!

Hello guys! With the Christmas period and my day job, my life has been absolutely heaving to keep up with posting constantly. It makes me sad when I'm itching to upload content on my blog, but it's not as simple as being able to just write something right there and then. Finally with a day off I managed to rope Joel my boyfriend into taking some photographs of me whilst we were out and about in York. If you've been keeping up with the British news, today the flooding in town starting to decrease so we had a wander to follow out errands and go to the pub!

29 Nov 2015

Hello guys! Hope you've all had a fab lazy Sunday lounging around watching films, I'm writing this post quite late but it's really not been my day at all. However I love writing a late night Sunday post whilst I cuddle up with tea, so please enjoy another foodie 'date night' review. Pavement Vaults has been on an absolute hype around the bars in York because it's our newly opened craft beer/smoke house restaurant, literally opening up its door at the beginning of this week. We went on it's second night of being open because it's all we've been hearing about, so it was time to test the goods!

Two outfit posts in one week? Am I being organised and on a roll? Hi guys! Hope you're having a good week, I feel like it's going so slow and Thursdays taken its sweet time to come around. It's absolutely freezing outside and I'm in desperate need of more thicker layers, so I thought I would treat myself. Boohoo is a site we all know and in my case love, they have reasonable priced in fashion clothing, so I knew I'd find a couple of things that I had been wanting for ages. I bought a bunch of things but was incredibly excited to receive this black denim pinafore dress!
As usual I did miss judge sizing on boohoo and ordered an 8, which falls straight off my bum! Returning that I reordered a 6 and it fits perfectly, so strange how just one size can make the difference! I find this alot with boohoo though, yet the other purchases in a size 8 fit fine.

Today I am super excited to share with you an amazing online store named Corset Story, as you've probably guested it a brand who specialize in vintage/steam punk pieces! Mostly corsets but they also offer timely pieces such as vintage dresses and steam punk styled blouses, shoes, etc (just check out these boots like ooooooh my gosh!) I was about to write some of you may know, but literally only two of my friends may know how much I have  wanted to get into the corset training scene. When I say scene I don't mean I'm doing it to fit into a crowd, I mean when I see absolutely beautiful ALT models dressed all vintage, wearing gorgeous corsets, it makes me want one so I can feel all nice and vintage. I've always wanted to train my waist so I could have what in my opinion I think is the perfect hour glass figure. The corsets I see ladies on Instagram rocking are so beautiful that how can you not feel like a queen wearing one?

Corset story so kindly got in touch and offered me the opportunity to style one of their pieces,

Hello guys! I really enjoyed sharing my last 'date night' experience with you so I thought I would do it again, this time taking you to a Caribbean influenced restaurant called Turtle Bay!

my experience so far of being a blogger

13 Nov 2015

Hello everybody! Hope you're all having a good week. Friday is here so for anyone who doesn't work in a bar on weekends like myself, you lucky devils the weekend starts after work for you! I miss the days where I finished college or school and I had the weekend to mess around with, now being an adult even if I'm not at work, I'm still doing something like house errands ew.
I started Heartshapedbones at the beginning of the year, my hair transformation inspiring me to start a youtube channel and a new blog to document things like life choices, fashion, hair, etc. It isn't my one year anniversary or anything (under two months to go!) but I felt inspired to do a post like this after picking up on a bunch of stuff happening to me over and over. I kind of sat back and thought wow, this is what it feels like to be a blogger.
When you put serious effort into your blog and the content you produce, you're taking it to a whole different level then just posting your thoughts and feelings on stuff that interests you. Everything I write about interests me, but despite it being really enjoyable, blogging can also be hard at times.

1. Periods of creative block
I am constantly having weeks where I want to produce content but I literally have no ideas on what to write, and it's never as easy as just posting up an outfit of the day post. I don't think people realise how much preparation you need to write a blog post.

Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you're all having a lazy time, fun fact whilst writing this post one of the rats has climbed deep into the gas fire place and won't come out :)))) This is the type of shit I deal with on my Sunday.
Anyway, lately with my blog I have been introducing foodie posts such as 'date night' where I share with you guys my experience of restaurants and the food I eat there. SO, when Graze* gave me the opportunity to try out one of their graze - Variety Box's* I jumped at the chance to try out some new foodie goodness! For y'all who haven't heard of Graze, they are a healthy snack subscription service that offer over 100 handcrafted snacks that promote feel good whilst snacking. The packaging itself is eco friendly and recyclable, which looks hella cute so I may myself up cycle it into something else like material to collage with!  What I love about the website is the ability to personalize your snacks, there being a number of options you can choose for your box so that the team at Graze* can make you perfect snacks that suit you and your dietary needs.

Hello there everyone! If you follow me over on my social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, etc you would of seen that I have been away all week in London! Nothing fancy, just an art trip, but alas that is the reason I haven't posted much this week but I'm back, full of ideas for this week ahead. Different post than my usual content, but I am literally sat stroking all the love out of my rats thinking to myself "I've learnt so much from having them already and it would be really useful for anyone going into getting their own pets". Yeah I think weird things related to my blog all the time, so I couldn't just sit watching Buffy with this itching to write out a blog post! (we've also got to that awful part in Buffy season 5 maybe with the key and dawn and blah I don't care it's so boring why Buffy why)
This isn't my first time having pets, my parents were so good and allowed us to have alot of animals growing up and I'm talking about five dogs at one time.

31 Oct 2015

Happy Halloween everyone! This past week I have been incredibly busy with university/work, so to bring out a number of Halloween related posts which I wanted to do was really hard. I feel as if I've let myself down, but then again I have a gothy style away from the annual event so it wont be any different than my usual content (hint I have a cool American Horror Story style lookbook planned). Even though I have a Saturday night off work I'm still a busy bee, but whilst getting on with my commission work, I've also binged watched a number of my favourite Halloween films this evening. I'm pretty sure I watch this combination of films every Halloween or atleast October time, so I thought (hoped) it would be interesting for you to see what makes my perfect Halloween film night in!

Hello lovelies! Check me out posting another review two days in a row! If you have been following my blog for quite some time you'll know I have posed this question many of times, 'Shall I get my Septum pierced?' without ever pushing the matter further. I'd like to say that the situation had changed but I am still pierce less and feeling always jealous when I see ladies absolutely rocking the Septum jewellery.

Hello Chaps! I am so excited to share with you this incredibly cool Star War's package Internet Gift Store* so kindly sent me! Internet Gift store* are a online store that focus on providing customers with excellent service and offer a serious wide range of awesome products. They work with top brands such as Disney, Yankee Candle, Ted Baker, Etc, offering gifts to suit anyone for every occasion.

20 Oct 2015

Hello there Guys & Girls! I've been seeing quite a lot of these type of posts floating around the internet and they are blog posts I absolutely love to read! It's a nice way to open yourself to new places to eat and read about food/restaurant experiences on a more personal level. I like reading reviews on platforms such as trip adviser, but I find reading a bloggers almost 'review' of a place very interesting.

outfit of the day | home is when i'm alone with you

12 Oct 2015

4 Oct 2015

Hello there chums! I feel that the last outfit of the day lookbook I posted felt a little cold without having any written word to it, so to change it up I wanted to do a little introduction and give y'all a little update. The weather was perfect so I had to jump at the chance to grab my camera. I came across this button down skirt on depop (originally from Urban) for such a good deal I had to jump, more like claw at it to make it my own. Dressing it with my most worn crop top and a hard cap fedora, this outfit screams my style all over.

Hey guys, back again with another jewellery product review and I am excited to be working again with Body Jewellery Shop*.

Moving away to University | Lifestyle

25 Aug 2015

Hey guys! Last night whilst browsing my universities home page (I was also looking at my schedule and classes for my third year) I came across a number of banners, etc reminding everyone that freshers were soon upon us! With September being literally less than a week away I've started to get back into uni mode, especially with it being my final year I've started to prepare for my dissertation (yep the dreaded end game!) It got me thinking right to the beginning, when I was a nervous ball of Jess, unpacking all my belongings out of my dads van, staring up at a tall old fashioned building in York which was going to be my home for a year. I stayed in student accommodation first year and man, my building was seriously old with a lot of problems. I'd shot off straight after work with my parents to pick up the keys so I was the last to move in, out of the three other girls I would be sharing a flat with. I repeated to myself I didn't want to be on the ground floor, I didn't want to be near the kitchen and I really really didn't just want to have a kitchen which is the least unsocial spot to have a chat with anyone ever.

OUTFIT OF THE DAY : Rusty Orange Pinafore | Fashion

23 Aug 2015

I hope everyone is having a good Sunday! I planned a full day of blogging in bed, but thankfully had the urge to get up bright and early to film a number of videos for my Youtube channel! You can check it out in the side bar where you'll find a little Youtube icon. I've felt incredibly happy all day and managed to even get some snaps of the outfit I was rocking! I stumbled upon this pinafore over on depop and with no hesitation ordered it into my life, styling it with a number of crop tops but I think this combination suits it best.
