OUTFIT OF THE DAY: HOW TO STYLE A SHIFT DRESS

Wednesday, 16 November 2016

I always find myself majorly conflicted when the cold weather hits, I feel as if all of my lookbooks should be overly seasonable, big jumpers, scarfs, coats, hats, when in reality I only have one coat and you guys have seen it already in two outfit posts. I HATE having to layer up sometimes in Autumn/winter because it does ruin a look and especially when I'm photographing it to share with you my personal style, I don't want all my photos to look the same just because I'm having to add a coat or hat. You feel me? I did the same last year and just bit the bullet, holding my breath as I stood in the cold to snap my pictures because I will not let a coat ruin my look! I love winter fashion and layering, but sometimes you just want to share that new snazzy dress that has completely stolen your heart. I feel so much more confident in myself with my big hair change, so I thought I would add a patch of colour to my wardrobe whilst keeping the style completely my own!

SHIFT DRESS: H&M // STRIPES ALIEN CROP TOP: Mystic Luna // FISH NEXT SOCKS: Ebay // CREEPERS: Ebay
This shift dress makes me feel as if I’ve come straight out of the 90s (lol that’s so funny because I did) like as if this morning I took a trip back to the 90s, dug out this outfit from my wardrobe and stepped back into 2016. It’s piece that would look awesome by itself with lovely jewellery and a jacket, but in light of the weather, you just have to layer up so I thought I would bring some of my personal style to it. H&M are killing it at moment with their quirky deluxe trend, the sparkles, metalic’s but most importantly the grungy pieces which pull at my heart strings. I dived at the dress when I saw it, it comes in a number of colours so I did opt for the black option too, but the dirty pastel pink reminded me or Courtney love so I had to buy it. I immediately imagined it being dressed with black mesh or some sort of crop top, so I decided to add my striped alien t-shirt as a way to add more detail to my outfit. I love stripes, I feel like every outfit I’ve done lately is stripes mad.

To make an outfit 'Grungy' I feel like a key item is definitely accessories, they can make a look seem more authentic, so I went with some rock 'n' roll fishnet socks, my faithful creepers which I love to stomp around in and a cord choker! I'm new to the cord chokers but so far I've been wearing them like this or with really delicate tops.

Have you found any jems lately which follow the 90's trend? I feel like I should be in a all women rock band and married to a long haired man in a rock band.

Until next time guys,
