My Ultimate Lipstick Picks for Autumn 2016

15 Sept 2016

One of the reasons I love this time of year is the switch from light summer makeup to deeper shades and thicker layers, the time where we can all put away the light lip gloss to bring out the blood red lipsticks! I LOVE dark lipsticks, I love to wear them to dress myself up, to work and casually just to add a little something else to my style. I wear a lot of dark clothing, so when I do wear something light or floral, especially with us just leaving summer, I feel more comfortable to express my dark side through my makeup. Thinking of dark shades I love reminds me of the warm feeling of hot drinks, cold brisk air and how the sun goes down so much sooner in the day so you get the sunset through the window at 6! Does that sound lame? That plum shades remind me of the season? Grunge eye shadow, dark lips, nudes and cold tone contouring shades! Bringing out products that have been sat to the side all summer, I thought I would share with you my favourite lipsticks which I think are perfect for the season!

NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in shade Amethyst
This shade is completely out there and I've found myself only wearing it in the house because it's too dark for summer, but now that the cold winds are coming in, I think it's the perfect time for lipstick! I have an obsession with liquid lipsticks lately and only after writing this post did I realise I've only included two normal lipsticks...

NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in shade Vintage
I have to say this is my favourite dark lipstick of the collection I'm showing you, it's just off red, more brown and makes me feel like the vampire goddess I deserve to be. After reading the shade 'Vintage' I immediately hoped it would be a dark red, but to my pleasant surprise it's a vision straight out of the 1920's. The coverage is fantastic and the staying power lasts through me eating a huge Bolognese sub.

THE NUDES: Lime crime Velvetine in Buffy & NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in Sandstorm
I know nudes don't seem very 'autumn' especially when everyone goes straight for the dark shades, but I love nothing more than wearing a cool tone nude for day to day. Both these shades are very similar, but I can't live without either! I thought I'd show you both of them as to see a pricy liquid lipstick and a cheaper alternative for a rosey brown nude, Lime crime's Buffy lasting longer and being thicker in product, where as Nyx's suede is cheaper, just as creamy and dries super quick. I think these nudes go perfectly with brown eyeshadow, which I tend to bring out this time of year!

CHERRY REDS: Super Matte PS Liquid Lipstick & Sleek Matte Me
Again I wanted to share two options to one shade, the perfect cherry red with a hint of plum to it. Both are incredibly affordable for matte liquid lipsticks, the PS super matte actually being from Primark and costs £1! The staying power is immaculate for such a cheap product, which can be taken as both a good and bad thing. The Sleek matte me is still only a couple of pounds and is more red toned. I love red lipstick but for the darker months these shades are perfect, incredibly vampy.

MAC Satin Lipstick in Paramount
I think this lipstick is quite different than the others, with all those being matte lipsticks, I thought I would involve a satin lipstick which is also one of my favourites for autumn. Paramount is a brown tone with a hint of orange, which sounds like a weird shade but the warm tone is so minor. I'm a huge fan of mac's matte finishes, they were the first matte lipsticks I ever bought, so of course I love the Satin for the opposite affect. They're incredibly buttery, pigmented and worth the price (even though you may class Mac as a pricier makeup brand.

Rimmel London Lipstick in a Rose Pink shade
This one is completely different from the others and the reason I decided to include it was because it's another shade I love to wear with dark makeup. When I want to have a bold, dark eye shadow I always pair it with this soft rose pink, like the nudes to balance out my makeup. I don't want to over do it when just going to work or tending to errands! This lipstick is another buttery finish and doesn't have a shimmer which is nice, it blends well into my inner lip not to give that give away line we all hate AND when it wears off, it's not noticeable at all because of how light the shade is!

Shades on arm: PS Super Matte, Sleek Matte me, Rimmel London, Mac, Lime crime Velvetine, Nyx Suede Sandstorm, Nyx Suede Vintage and Nyx Suede Amethyst.

I reach for a variety of shades lately and I'm so excited to be able to wear these babies daily again as they are my favourites! I feel naked without lipstick on, especially when I tend to go full out with my eye shadow for the smoky eyes in winter. What shades have you been loving or are excited to pull out of the closet for this season?

Until next time guys,
