OUTFIT OF THE DAY: I Am So Ready For Autumn

5 Oct 2016

Autumn has to be my favourite season for a number of reasons and to say I love it, would be an understatement in itself because a cold breeze makes my heart literally flutter. I found myself smiling contently whilst walking down the street the other day as it was getting dark so early, leaves were falling and the nose of the chilly wind blowing just made me happy. Is that weird? I'm not a fan of the heat so summer is completely wasted on me, so when the weather starts to change to cardigan/jacket weather, I love it. It's the autumnal colours, leaves, pumpkins, flowers, fashion trends, hot drinks, scarfs, the perfect boots and my favourite tv shows whilst growing up seemed to always begin in Autumn when I was going back to school. That isn't without forgetting it's Halloween, my favourite time of the year because as a child my mum would go all out and decorate the kitchen as a witches den. Fancy dress, sweets, feeling spooky and the films! I'm in my element this season so expect alot of content which makes you feel warm and in need of Halloween town back to back. I thought to kick start things off this October I would finally do the Autumn tag, something I love to do each Autumn since I started my blog!

Before I start the tag, a little about my outfit!

I've been wearing this combination of clothing (short sleeve top/band tee with a long skirt) for a while now since the weather has started to get cold, especially to work because it's incredibly comfy whilst taking no effort at all! September was a weird month because we actually had really warm days, the cold breeze making an appearance sometimes which is why I decided to buy a long, thick cardigan so I didn't have to crack out the winter coat so early. Having myself covered but still wearing a skirt with no tights like I have done in today's outfit, surprisingly keeps me warm, meaning I can still wear my favourite heeled sandals! I've almost up cycled these pieces of clothing because originally they were all different, the top actuaally being a dress from missguided which is just a shift style striped dress to the knees, the skirt having no bow which I attached to cinch in my waist! I love adding my own touches to an outfit because you can literally dress one piece a number of ways, this 'top' being dressed up and down on so many different occasions.

1. What signifies the start of Autumn for you?
It's a combination for me, I feel as if it's officially Autumn when I'm walking home from work, it's getting dark, there's a cold breeze and leaves rustle on the floor! That feeling right there signifies to me that it's Autumn, I get chills and it has nothing to do with the cold wind! This year everything that makes Autumn for me seems to have happened all at once, the decorations in store, Halloween sections appearing too in my favourite shops, candles, the leaves are falling heavily from trees and already I feel like I need to invest in a big coat this year!

2. What is your favourite Fall scent?
Natural scents it definitely has to be the smell in the air when you walking through the forest, in Autumn the smell of falling leaves really makes me feel sentimental! It's the smell of rotting leaves right? Candle wise, I always used to go for smoky/whisky smelling scents which brands such as Yankee used to bring out, but recently I found the perfect Pumpkin and vanilla smell which is so soothing to the nose! Definitely my new favourite fall scent, it has the small kick of pumpkin but the vanilla makes it really sweet.

3. What is your favourite Autumn colour?
Mustard! I am loving the deep robin green like the cardigan I am showing in my outfit today, but mustard over powers every colour when I'm shopping. There's so many lovely mustard jackets/jumpers in this years AW16 fashion.

4. What is your favourite Fall drink?
I'm not a coffee drinker so sadly I haven't actually ever tried a pumpkin spiced latte from Starbucks (sorry) it's definitely just hot chocolate for me! I do love dark chocolate when it's melted into my hot drink mmm.

5. What TV show, new or old, are you looking forward to this Fall?
AMERICAN HORROR STORYYYYY!! My favourite seasons of AHS have always been based in fall or have been released in September, both Murder House and the new season 6 have started in the fall and I'm so in love with the show! An Halloween Special episode always gets me giddy with any show. I remember also loving the series Scream which was released this time last year! I've only just found out also that Once Upon A Time is back again with a new season on Netflix, so I'm excited to tuck into that this Autumn.

6. What is your favourite Fall fashion trend?
It has to be the long jumper dresses. With working in retail myself I'm going mental for the long jumpers which are high necked, also coming to mid shin so they're perfect to style as a dress. Of course the mustard jacket trend is back, extending to so many staples such as jumpers and I've found the perfect mustard scarf that I need in my life! As we're coming up to Halloween a lot of pieces are being released in stores which I love, the cheeky skeleton print leotard or onesy!

7. What is your favourite frugal Autumn activity?
Walking the dogs. Growing up in the country side I loved to take the dogs for a walk through the forest, with my family, by the river when the sun is setting! The sun gives off warmth but there's the chill that night brings, it makes my heart skip. Living in York with my boyfriend our favourite thing to do in Autumn is wrap up and walk around the beautiful city, we hit the food markets which set up this time of year which are super cheap! Hot drinks in hand, York is such a beautiful city to explore. I really want to go to a pumpkin patch or a farmers market, it's always been on my bucket list and probably one of the more realistic ones!

8. What is your favourite makeup look come autumnal weather?
Definitely the vampy lip! I always love to create a romantically Gothic makeup look when Autumn hits, creamy eyes, soft contouring but a bold dark red lip to really add to my look. I wear alot of black but in Autumn I can really layer it up!

What are your favourite things about Autumn?
I hoped you liked this little mixture of two things in todays post, my outfit of the day and an Autumn tag which has really got me more excited for the season!

Until next time,
